Colourful minimalism
A simple home for a minimalist who loves colours and patterns.
The brief was to create a neutral decor “with a pop” for a two-bedroom apartment in the heart of Tel Aviv. The client, a single professional from New York, got in touch with me before her move to Israel. We started working on the design about a month before she arrived, through zoom video calls, which enabled us to paint the apartment before her flight and deliver the furniture on the week of her arrival.
With a serious pulmonary condition, she was surprised and so very grateful when I suggested we use chemical-free paints and materials. At the time when she contacted me, she had no idea that I specialised in healthy homes, and was very excited to gain access to my little black book of suppliers and retailers and to hear about my natural tips.
While she wanted to keep the walls white, she felt very strongly about adding colours and patterns to keep the space exciting. She wanted her home office to be calm and simple, but with an inspiring background for zoom video calls. We chose a palette of deep blues and warm terracottas paired with elegant black and white accents, and worked with simple geometric shapes to add interest to the space without visual clashes. This is one of my favourite projects to date and I just love how it all turned out! Since then I’ve put together a blog post on how to use colour in a minimalist home, so head over for six calming colour palettes if you’re also a minimalist who loves colour.
